Why do smartphone manufacturers choose not to have removable batteries?

Why do smartphone manufacturers choose not to have removable batteries? Are they easier to produce if the batteries are fixed?

Yes. And smaller if you don't need a removable back cover. Also, when, after a year, the battery deteriorates, people will be more likely to buy a new phone...
