Smartphone users linger longer in the loo

Smartphone users linger longer in the looSmartphones have changed our lives in many ways, but one of the effects you're less likely to be aware of is that they've apparently increased the average length of our trips to the bathroom.

That's right – a new study has revealed that smartphone users spend more time at the oval office than their non-smartphone owning mates, and iPhone users are the worst of all.

Around 67% of Android users questioned by Gaj-it in a recent survey admitted regularly taking their mobile phones with them when heading off to answer the call of nature, with the phone apparently having replaced the old trusty magazine as bathroom companion of choice.

But iPhone owners are even worse. The same number of Apple phone users were spoken to as were Android users, but this time a full 89% fessed up that they took in a bit of iPhone action in the loo.

More worryingly, about half of each group admitted they've spent upwards of 20 minutes on a bathroom visit because of their phone addiction.

So what is it that's keeping us so occupied? Gaming and a bit of surfing too, if the 600-person survey is to be believed – with the gaming side particularly popular among iPhone owners.
