Sorry Snapdragon 800, Tegra 4 is the world’s fastest mobile processor

Sorry Snapdragon 800, Tegra 4 is the world’s fastest mobile processorJanuary’s CES 2013 saw a ton of mobile processor-related announcements, including Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon range (the 200, 400, 600 and 800), and Nvidia’s Tegra 4.

The Snapdragon 800 is Qualcomm’s top dog, but we’re hearing – as promised – that the Tegra 4 is in fact the “world’s fastest mobile processor”.

That’s the word according to Kevin Krewell of The Linley Group, who reckons the Tegra 4 is your best bet if muscle is your main concern.

“This performance takes aim at Qualcomm’s newest Snapdragon processors. Nvidia offered a wide range of benchmark results that clearly showed Tegra 4 leading both the APQ8064 and (judging from our estimates) the forthcoming Snapdragon 800,” squawks Kevin.

“Based on these estimates, even Qualcomm’s best processor, which is due to enter production at about the same time as Tegra 4, won’t surpass Nvidia in these tests.”

However, Kev notes that while Nvidia is focused on cranking the power, Qualcomm is more concerned with efficiency, so your Snapdragon 800-rockin’ device might in fact offer greater battery life.

We learned a few weeks ago that ZTE will be the first manufacturer to release a Tegra 4-based handset. Little is known about the device at this stage, aside from the claim that it’ll be a “super phone”.
