How do software updates work once you're jailbroken?

How do software updates work once you're jailbroken? Luckily I was on 6.1.2 when I saw Lewis' guide! But how will I get iOS 6.1.3?

How will you get iOS 6.1.3? As always, but your jailbreak will be gone, and some jailbreak hackers have indicated that they won't work on a new jailbreak until iOS7 because it is getting harder and harder. So, if you think you NEED 6.1.3, do not jailbreak. Mind you: there are Cydia tweaks and apps that let you add security, so you can avoid the lockscreen bug (if you tend to let your iPhone lying around near nosey/criminal geeks) etc...

So if I upgrade to iOS 6.1.3 in the usual way I'll lose all the jailbreak stuff? Does it just......disappear?

Yes, when you hit "update" the new firmware will wipe everything rearranged during the jailbreak. All Cydia apps will "just disappear" - whoosh.... everything else (your 'official' apps and photos etc) will stay intact.
