Sony has issued a press release officially confirming the S1 and S2 tablets that we’ve been hearing about for the past few months. Thankfully “S1” and “S2” are just development codenames. Phew.
The S1 has been “optimised for rich media entertainment”, and has a 9.4in display. It has an “off-centre of gravity” design, with more weight at the top. Sony reckons that’ll make it easier to hold.
The S2, meanwhile, is “ideal for mobile communication and entertainment.” It has an intriguing clamshell design with two 5.5in displays, a bit like the Nintendo DS. The screens can be combined to form one large display, or used independently. For example, you might have a video running on the top with the controls displayed down below.
Both the S1 and S2 will rock dual-core Tegra 2 processors and Android 3.0 (Honeycomb). Gamers will be pleased to hear they’re both PlayStation certified.
The S1 and S2 will be available globally this fall (or autumn, to you and me).
