A Pocket Gamer source, said to be “close to Sony Ericsson”, has revealed that the Japanese-Swedish alliance will look to land a number of exclusive titles for the Xperia Play.
The PlayStation Phone has the backing of at least 20 developers, and 50 titles will be available at launch. However, many of those are already available for iOS and Android, such as Asphalt 6: Adrenaline Rush.
The Xperia Play versions will have improved controls to take full advantage of the device, but clearly Sony Ericsson doesn’t think that’ll be enough to woo gamers away from iOS and Android.
Gameloft, the developer behind N.O.V.A. and Modern Combat, has been cited as a possible provider of exclusive content.
Hosting exclusive titles would further the Xperia Play's massive advantage in the gaming field. The phone’s slide-out controls kick the pants off touchscreen play, and it'll have access to games from both the PlayStation Suite and Android Market.
The PlayStation Phone will ship with six games, including one PSOne Classic. The phone has been demoed with Crash Bandicoot in recent months.
The Sony Ericsson Xperia Play is scheduled for an April 1 release.
