Sony Ericsson promises 'something big' for CES. The Xperia Arc HD perhaps?We hope you're sitting down. Because “something big is coming”. Not only that, but consider yourself under instructions to “stay tuned for some exciting news next week”.

Yes, that's some really exciting stuff, we know. But fortunately there's more, and it seems Sony Ericsson might just have something exciting up its sleeve to unveil at CES 2012.

It started off with a teaser competition launched yesterday that dished up the “something big” wheeze, along with a rendering of a phone-shaped device being concealed behind a draped curtain and an Android robot chappy in the foreground, offering the chance to win the device in question by guessing what it is.

Not much to go on, but Sony Ericsson has upped the stakes significantly today by releasing four close-ups of the device in question, hinting at some fairly serious camera smarts to look forward to.

As pointed out by Slashgear, the device in question is definitely related to the Xperia Arc S from an appearance point of view, while the obvious nod to HD might suggest it's the Xperia Arc HD that's been hitting the rumour mill for a fair while now.

Depending on who you listen to, we could be looking at a 12- or 13-megapixel camera, a 720p display, a quad-core processor and up to 32GB of storage – though probably not all of the above.

We shouldn't have long to wait to find out, in fact as Sony Ericsson itself says: “Just a few more days until we can reveal some interesting news.”

Indeed.

Is "Something big is coming" the standard Android announcement these days?

Probably means an even bigger screen.

@jmarcelino
Still better than Apple's slogans.
"It's our best *insert product* yet."
Well duh, you're not going to make a new product worse than the old one. :p

Really? The step from the iPod Nano 5g to 6g was quite a step backwards with the removal of the camera and video support.

Also you could argue taking out the hard drive and USB slot from the apple tv was another leap against the usual development direction

@blizzard7
Apple only used that slogan for the 3GS, with "The fastest, most powerful iPhone yet." and now for the 4S ""It's the most amazing iPhone yet." See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Apple_Inc._slogans

Can you see the pattern with the "S" models?

OTOH "Something big is coming" was used for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus just a couple of months ago (my screenshot above) and apparently now this Sony Xperia is using it again... Two different companies using the same exact slogan.

Someone was lacking in creativity here.

Not that I'm being cynical or anything (who'd ever imagine that...), but it'll probably be a crap phone, judging by SE's previous flagship Android efforts. They've not even cracked dual-core yet, remember.
