Sony Ericsson teases return of Walkman phones

Sony Ericsson teases return of Walkman phonesWow, Sony Ericsson has really grabbed itself a huge slice of the news pie this week. Earlier today we reported on Sony Ericsson’s 17.7MP sensor, and yesterday we talked about their plan for world domination.

Part of that plan includes releasing four new Sony Ericsson smartphones in 2011, says Bert Nordberg, Sony Ericsson’s president and CEO. Now, according to a poster published on Android Community, it looks like at least one of those phones will be Walkman branded.

The poster simply reads: “A smarter Walkman phone is coming soon”. No specs, dates, or further details of any kind just yet, though Android Community has “got word” that Sony Ericsson is “gearing up” for a 2011 launch.

Personally, I’d welcome a return to the glory days of the Sony Ericsson W810i, definitely one of my favourite phones.

My last phone, the W995, was supposedly one of the last "Walkman" branded phones..interesting. HTC has won my heart for now, but here's hoping SE bring out more innovative, and reliable phones in the future.

I emailed SE a couple of weeks ago about their android phones not having a decent walkman app & crap speakers. They replied "Although all of our handsets have the basic Walkman function - to play tracks through headsets and through speakerphone - we do not have any plans to release an Android Walkman handset. There are different ranges of handsets cerated by Sony Ericsson: Cybershot, Walkman, Xperia, and as these are seperate they specify in different areas." so don't hold out for an android walkman phone. Or a spell checker, it seems.
