O2: no Ice Cream Sandwich for Xperia Arc, Neo or Ray
Sony took great pleasure in announcing that all phones in the 2011 Xperia range (er, other than the Xperia Play) would be upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0).
However, Telefonica’s O2 has different plans, particularly concerning the Xperia Arc, Neo and Ray.

There’s been a whole lot of confusion over Sony’s Android upgrade plans of late, but here’s some decidedly good news.
The 2011 Xperia range (er, other than the Xperia Play, of course) is about to be served a delicious hunk of Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0.4).

A few days ago we were saying that Sony had cast doubt on Jelly Bean (Android 4.1) for the 2011 Xperia range, having specifically ruled out the Xperia Arc S and Xperia mini pro during a Facebook Q&A session.
However, that still leaves eight Ice Cream Sandwich-rockin’ Sony Ericsson devices from 2011 unaccounted for, and Sony has told us to stay tuned.

Sony pleased most of its smartphone user base when it served Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) to its entire 2011 Xperia range. Er, with the exception of the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play.
As such, Sony smartphone users had high hopes for an upgrade to Jelly Bean (Android 4.1), but those hopes have been somewhat dashed, thanks to a Facebook Q&A.

And as of today that face is getting a fresh new look, as Sony has confirmed the Android 4.0.4 update – aka Ice Cream Sandwich – is rolling out to the 2011 Xperias, starting it seems with the Xperia Arc and Xperia Neo.

Good afternoon to you. Apparently I didn’t make it clear enough in The best smartphones of 2011? Yes and no… part 1 that I was simply listing a synopsis of each and every Mobot handset review from 2011, in plain old chronological order. Also, when I say “part 1”, it’s perfectly safe to assume there’s a second part in the proverbial pipeline. You maniacs.
I listed a total of 18 devices in part 1, and not one – including the Samsung Galaxy S II and iPad 2 – managed a perfect 5/5. Evidently that Dave Oliver is a tough gentleman to please. Will we see a cheeky 5/5 in part 2? I really don’t know. Personally, I’m hoping for a 1/5. Let’s rock!

Sony will be one of dozens of manufacturers in attendance at CES in Las Vegas next month, and Ubergizmo reports that new Sony Ericsson Xperia handsets will be on display.
The accompanying pic of Sony’s CES invite doesn’t specifically mention anything about Sony Ericsson or Xperia, so we’re assuming someone has been whispering in Ubergizmo’s ear.

We were pretty certain that Sony Ericsson’s Xperia range from 2011 (all 672 of them) would get the Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) treatment. We heard as much last month.
However, just to be extra clear, the lovely Martina Johansson has confirmed the same on Sony Ericsson’s Product Blog. Thanks, ma’am.

It was inevitable, really. No sooner had Android Ice Cream Sandwich launched alongside the Samsung Galaxy Nexus than the flood of questions started from other Android users: "What about my phone?"
Google says ICS will work on existing Gingerbread devices, but of course the release of an actual upgrade is down to the device manufacturers themselves. Well, today Sony Ericsson came out and commited its entire 2011 portfolio to some Ice Cream Sandwich goodness.
