Picked white one from the store. Needs unlocking. It's quite nice for 150.
Drinking supersedes unlocking, so will let you know tomorrow.

Unlocking O2 Xperia Play (please read everything before proceeding). You will need a SIM locked phone, PC, metal paper clip and €15 to pay for unlock.

I will not be responsible, if something goes wrong with your phone!!!

First thing first, check that your phone is locked. Power it off, take out a battery, wait 5 seconds, put battery back in, press search button and plug in USB cable connected to PC, while holding search button. If blue light (on power button) comes on your phone does not have locked boot and this guide is not for you.

Download Omnius SE from here -> http://omnius-server.com/
Install Omnius, you will need phone drivers which are located in installation directory.
Start Omnius and go to identify. Follow directions powering off the phone, pressing back key and connecting it to computer. Point Windows to Omnius install directory to get drivers. You will get a detailed print out identifying type of lock you have. If it says that you have SIM lock with numbers identifying which carriers are allowed you have to unlock your phone.

Go to Advanced and backup TA. You don’t really need it, but it’s good to have just in case.

This is where it gets difficult. Disconnect, take out a battery. You have to remove paper cover under the battery to get access to metal contacts. To get a better idea what needs to be done start up Omnius and go to unlock. It will show up picture of contacts that you need to get access to and you should be to see them through paper cover.

Please follow this procedure before paying. It’s possible that Omnius will not work and it’s a hassle to get money refunded.

Once you have paper removed enough to access contacts, start Omnius and click unlock (will not actually do anything, so it’s safe).
- Take out a battery from the phone.
- Plug in USB cable connected to PC
- Take paper clip and attach it to battery ground (-) connector and touch red dot on other connector as shown on picture in Omnius. If you are successful Omnius will start printing more info
- Now you have around 5 seconds to remove paper clip and plug in battery. If you are not quick enough just repeat.
- Omnius will read phone info, connect to server and fail saying that you do not have valid credits/license.
- You have successfully went through procedure that will unlock your phone. Now you have to buy single unlock license from one of resellers: http://omnius-server.com/resellers http://www.omniuslogs.net charge €15 and take around 20 minutes to credit your account. You might find others that will do it cheaper
- Once your Omnius account is credited repeat same procedure. Your phone will be SIM and bootloader unlocked. You do not need to unlock bootloader separately.

Note: Do not use FlashTool to flash firmware on Play. FlashTool is not compatible with Play and there is a high chance that it will fail during process (just google, if you don’t believe me). If it fails your phone will not power on and it will be very hard to recover. If your phone is already bricked there is no harm in trying FlashTool to recover (it might work), but do not use it on working phone.

Update for FlashTool. Full support for Xperia Play. Now can flash different stock ROMs without fear of bricking your phone. Supports fastboot mode for bootloader unlocked phones.
