A few weeks ago we reported that Sony Ericsson’s plans for global Android domination would see a shift in focus towards North America, with us poor Europeans playing second fiddle. In fact, make that third fiddle, right behind China.
Now a source has told Android Community that our transatlantic cousins will see nine new Android phones in 2011. The informant is said to be “quite familiar with the inner workings of Sony Ericsson”.
The Yanks will soon get the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, and presumably the Arc, Neo and Pro. That leaves a further five to be announced. One of those could very well be a Walkman phone, as recently teased by SE.
It’s not clear just how far behind we’ll be, but the North Americans will ultimately start seeing new Sony Ericsson phones before us.
Bert Nordberg, Sony Ericsson’s president and CEO, explains: “It’s a good goal, and it’s simple and clear: we are in the Android market and we want to be number one. That’s a goal for the whole company to unite around, and you can’t reach it without the U.S.”
Ah well. Smell you later, Sony Ericsson.
