Of late I’ve been writing about Sony’s third high-end smartphone of the year as the Sony “Honami” Xperia i1, encompassing both the codename and the previously proposed commercial name.
Word on the street suggests it’s actually set for a further name change before release, possibly landing in consumers’ hands as the Sony Xperia Z1.
While it doesn’t exactly make much sense in the grand scheme of things (why 1?), it at least brings the Sony Xperia Z1 in line with the Sony Xperia Z and Xperia Z Ultra.
Actually, Sony is probably the last manufacturer we should look to for sensible nomenclature, since its recent smartphones tend to have gone under Xperia <insert random letter>, with the letter meaning this: absolutely nothing; a higher letter doesn’t necessarily dictate better specs.
In other Sony Honami/Xperia i1/Xperia Z1 news, Chinese-language site ePrice has its hands on a press shot seemingly confirming the availability of black, purple and white colours. Yeah, that’s pretty much what we were expecting (white/purple).
The Sony Xperia Z1 is tipped to launch on September 4, at a pre-IFA event in Berlin, with the headline feature being its 20.7MP rear camera.
