Sony vs HTC

Who is doing better (or worse :p) at the moment: Sony or HTC? Which is shipping/selling more phones?

Err, Samsung? :p

Err, Samsung, indeed. Much much much better... The Z1 and Z2 and Compact get good reviews, and Sony can still afford to throw a lot of money at their marketing. But the reality is:
Overall Sony's mobile division isn't doing all that well. I'm not saying they make bad phones.
But the market is saturated. People go with 'familiar' and/or with what others use... Apple, Samsung and Nokia for dumbphones and WP.

Sony is doing better.

Sony shipped a total of 40 million smartphones in 2013 and made a profit.
HTC shipped an estimated 20 million and are losing money.

Ahmad, I thought so... but: ... um, I forgot my point. Oops. I had one 2 minutes ago. Nevermind.

Your point was probably that Sony are doing poorly as well.
And you'd be correct in assuming that. But overall they are doing better than HTC.

Yes... worth remembering that Sony have a lot more might, a much wider range of products to redirect and reshuffle funding, and to utilize R&D more efficiently. E.g.: Sony make cameras AND camera phones; portable games consoles AND gaming capable phones...

If that wasn't so, would Sony still be able to claim "profits" from their phones alone? I know, academic questions...
