Is Sony's focus still the US?

I remember Sony Ericsson said they were going to focus on the US over Europe but has that changed now that it's just Sony on their own?

Ah, yeah - I remember that... I don't know, but I think to a degree that was just lip service, anyway. The manufacturers are all still adapting to the changed world map. Not that long ago (pre-iPhone) the USA was pretty much behind in terms of high-end smartphone tech (don't forget: the 1st iPhone was 2G...). They used to get top handsets after they were released in the rest of the world.
Nokia, e.g., didn't really suffer although they never really broke in the US with Symbian...

The iPhone and then Android's onslaught changed that. Not making it in the USA is now seen as a sign of defeat no matter how well you're doing elsewhere...
So, saying, "we'll focus on the US market" may be a promise, it may also be a way to tell shareholders, "we'll behave" ;)

Sony Ericsson were also "focusing on winmo", and before that they were "completely committed to UIQ/Symbian"...and they are fully committed to Android. And I bet in India and Japan they are "completely focused on Asia" yada yada yada...
They should be focused on good design, on speedy software fixes and updates. The rest will follow... Remember the iPad launch? For days Twitter etc were in stitches over that stupid stupidly named gadget...
But look, it became a tiny little cult hit :p

Direct Quote from President and CEO of Sony Ericsson, Bert Nordberg.

“At this point I wouldn’t feel comfortable investing in a platform that isn’t as good as the one that we currently use. Therefore we have remained with Android, but I am quite curious about Windows Phone.”

That's a bit like saying, I love my wife but I'm curious about the next door neighbour :p.
