Sony remains one of the few consumer technology giants without a presence in the increasingly crowded tablet market.
That will all change with the intriguing-looking S1 and S2, however, and the latest news we're hearing is that the pair of Android-powered Sony slates could go on sale in the UK in September.
Sony has said all along that it is aiming to get its debut tablet offerings on the market during the autumn, but as we've seen time and time again, such promises don't guarantee anything at all.
So we're happy to hear concrete and specific proof that everything is bang on track – that's if the latest story is in fact true, that is.
Engadget claims to have been shown a “private note sent from Sony's marketing group, highlighting an August pre-order and an end of September release date for an unnamed tablet from the company”.
This note goes on to reveal that the slate in question will be available through Sony Direct, John Lewis and a third yet-to-be-confirmed retailer, before going on sale more widely after Christmas.
There is nothing specific on the tablet itself, other than the fact that it will offer “unique design features”. But considering the S1 and S2 both have their own individual design touches, that doesn't really narrow things down overly much.
