Sony smartphone at 5.2in leaked in pictures

Sony smartphone at 5.2in leaked in picturesSony finally launched the Xperia Z1 Compact at CES 2014 a couple of weeks ago, and quickly followed up with the Xperia E1 Walkman phone and the Xperia T2 Ultra phablet.

But that still leaves a question mark over the next Sony smartphone flagship, the successor to the Xperia Z1, and while we await official word from the Japanese manufacturer, we’re seeing something called the Xperia D6503.

The pictures are leaked over on xda-developers, by user iRimas who “got this from one of my friend”. That’s some friend, iRimas.

In terms of Sony Xperia D6503 specs, we’re told it has a 5.2in display, Jelly Bean Android 4.3 in the captain's chair, and a 20.7MP rear camera, though further details are scarce on account of bugs and crashes.

It’s not clear if the Sony Xperia D6503 marks a spanking new flagship device, or simply some sort of Sony Xperia Z1 refresh. Sony Xperia Z1L is one suggestion.

Sounds like this could be the same phone as the rumoured Sony Sirius. It’s tipped to arrive at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2014, with a 5.2in display and MSM8974AB (Qualcomm Snapdragon 800) processor.

As for the pictures, the only thing we can garner about the Xperia D6503 is that it has a three-hole – as opposed to mesh – arrangement for the mic, and the, er, lanyard hole is relocated.

Confused? Me too. Expect some Sony smartphone flagship clarification at MWC in five weeks’ time.

Still puzzling about the Z1! Uts camera is bizarre - the better the light the worse the pictures it takes. And thought I rarely complain about dirt and smudge magnetism, Sony definitely took the problem to a new level. The Z1 could be used by CSI to attract fingerprints over the air... no more dusting powder and sticky tape.
Anyhoo... Low light without flash - yes, it's kinda impressive. Everything else? The Nokia N95 took better pics.
The rest? It looks pretty on a table - at least for 30 seconds after a polish. After that it's just greasy and people will think it's a Sony cheese board.
