They don't quite qualify as 'iPad-killers', but Sony's debut tablet offerings – the Tablet S and Tablet P – are certainly among the more interesting Android slates that have touched down in 2011.
So it's welcome news – though hardly surprising – that Sony has confirmed its tablet twins are being lined up for some Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich action.
There's been a lot of talk lately about Sony's buyout of Ericsson's half of Sony Ericsson and what it might mean for the smartphone brand's future. But the Tablet S and Tablet P have fallen under just Sony's name since day one, and have been doing quite nicely too, thankyou very much.
Sony Ericsson has already revealed that all its recent Xperia handsets will be getting Android Ice Cream Sandwich in the new year, and now Sony's tablets look set to join them in the Android 4.0 waiting room.
Sadly there's no specifics at this stage as to exactly when the update will be ready – Sony's press release says only “details including timing will be announced in due course”. But it does at least suggest that Sony is in the tablet game for the long haul, which is no bad thing.
