Sony Tablet S wins CES Innovations award

Sony Tablet S wins CES Innovations awardSony may have been late off the mark in getting into the tablet game, but the Tablet S has turned the tables on its rivals by nabbing an early award for next year's CES.

The Tablet S has been given the debut Tablets, E-readers and Netbooks CES 2012 Best of Innovations award, beating a host of Samsung rivals and Sony's own Reader Wi-Fi.

The CES Best of Innovations awards are announced a couple of months ahead of the annual tech fest in Las Vegas, which kicks off in early January.

When it comes to the mobile pretenders, the wireless handsets award is traditionally the one to keep your eye on, and this year the Innovations award went to HTC's US-only Amaze 4G.

But Sony nabbed the award for the new catch-all category covering tablets, e-book readers and netbooks, with the also-rans including the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9, Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (Wi-Fi) and Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (LTE).
