The rumour mill suggests we’ll meet some sort of Sony Xperia Z2 at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2014 in Barcelona, but it’s not all about the flagships, man.
A little something called the Sony Xperia G has been pictured for the first time, and there’s a good chance it’ll pop up in Barcelona, too.
Credit here goes to ViziLeaks, though the, eh, wording of the tweet suggests we shouldn’t get too excited.
The ViziChap writes: “#Sony pumping out devices following the flagship design with mediocre specs, here is the latest... #Xperia #XperiaG”.
A follow-up tweet reads: “#Sony pumping out devices here is the latest...D-Series LTE 4.8" 8GB 8MP 1GB RAM No IP rating #Xperia #XperiaG”.
Obviously that’ll be 8GB internal storage, an 8MP rear camera, and 1GB of RAM. Yeah, that sounds pretty mid-range to us, the Sony Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z1 Compact having 20.7MP rear cameras and 2GB of RAM each.
Traditionally, larger phones have had high-end specs, but we’re starting to see more and more gigantor entry-level phones, and that appears to be the case with the 4.8in Sony Xperia G.
What we really want is more small phones with flagship specs. The Sony Xperia Z1 Compact was definitely a step in the right direction.
Presumably we’ll learn more about the Sony Xperia G at MWC 2014, which gets underway in just nine days’ time.
