I was saying the other day that patent submissions quite often make for more interesting viewing than, like, actual stuff. Remember the story about the potential Microsoft phone with front and rear displays? Of course you do.
Now we’re hearing that Sony has had a patent approved for a decidedly Xperia Play-esque device with not one but two sliding thingies.
The submission to the United States Patent & Trademark Office makes for comical reading, with phrases such as: “The first slidable unit is slidably connected to the upper unit,” and: “The second slidable unit is slidably connected to the upper unit and the first slidable unit.”
In theory, we could see a Sony Xperia Play 2 with a sliding Xperia Pro-style QWERTY, and slide-out controls for gaming.
However, the submission was originally made back in October 2010, so we won’t get too excited. And there have been a few changes within Sony (Ericsson) since then.
