Sony Xperia S: pre-order yours for £467.99

Sony Xperia S: pre-order yours for £467.99Sony used CES 2012 in Vegas last week to unveil the Xperia S – the first ever smartphone to appear under Sony's own name following its recent buyout of Ericsson's half of Sony Ericsson.

And with the Xperia S set to go on sale in the UK in March, online retailer Clove has decided to put down a marker by opening up pre-orders for the big-screened Android beauty.

Sony has yet to confirm an official on-sale date for the Xperia S, and while we presume it'll be available on all the leading networks, the details are still being finalised.

But Clove reckons Sony's smartphone debutant will be with us in the week commencing March 5, and – provided you're willing to cough up £467.99 and go SIM-free – will happily scribble your name down on the pre-order waiting list to make sure you're among the first to see that Sony badge up close and personal.

The Xperia S features a 4.3in display running at an HD-friendly resolution of 1280 x 720, is powered by a dual-core 1.5GHz processor and gives you 32GB of on-board storage.

The camera promises to be a real highlight thanks to the 12-megapixel Sony Exmor R sensor, and you can also record video in Full HD 1080p.

It's only Android 2.3 Gingerbread you'll be getting initially, but Sony says an upgrade to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich will touch down in the second half of the year.

Sony/SE, year old technology worked so well in 2011 for you didn't it? The same business plan again seems like a perfect idea.
