Sony Xperia Tablet Z: UK price and release date set

Sony Xperia Tablet Z: UK price and release date setThe Sony Xperia Z has been fairly well received, on account of its 5in 1080p display, expandable memory and waterproofness (yeah, I just made up a word).

Its big tablet brother will be hoping for a similar warm welcome, and the Japanese manufacturer has apparently now settled on a Sony Xperia Tablet Z price and release date for us in the UK.

Over on the official Sony site, Xperia Tablet Z price starts at £399 for the 16GB model, while the 32GB unit will set you back £449. Both of those are Wi-Fi only.

There’s also a 16GB LTE/4G Sony Xperia Tablet Z, but no price has been revealed for that model just yet.

Sticking the former two in our virtual shopping basket, we’re told that the Sony Xperia Tablet Z release date – or the expected delivery date, to be precise – is April 15-16.

Sony Xperia Tablet Z specs include a 10.1in ‘Reality Display’ (1920 x 1200), quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor clocked at 1.5GHz, and a meaty 2GB of RAM.

The Sony Xperia Tablet Z spec sheet also boasts an 8MP rear camera, 2.2MP front shooter, stereo speakers with 3D surround sound, Jelly Bean (Android 4.1), Bluetooth and NFC (Near Field Communication).

Sounds pretty good on paper, but we’ve yet to see a 10in tablet trouble the full-sized iPad, and with pricing roughly similar, we can’t see the Sony Xperia Tablet Z bucking that particular trend.

Good luck with that Sony. Seems decent enough but it'll struggle at that price.

When will they stop placing the camera where your finger is most likely to be?
And yeah, I always take my snapshot with huge slabs

Pondlife  Mar. 21, 2013 at 14:53

Given the size of it I'm sure you could find somewhere else to put your fingers, wouldn't think right at the top was the most obvious place to grip a tablet personally.

Your hands aren't evolved enough...
There is NO comfortable way to hold that thing...

Pondlife  Mar. 21, 2013 at 15:15

Well they aren't the size of ogre hands no.
You've held one? ;)

JanSt / MOD  Mar. 21, 2013 at 15:21

Haven't we all? :p
No, but Toshiba AT100, iPad, A500 etc... I don't know why they have cameras at all...

Pondlife  Mar. 21, 2013 at 15:33

It's another way we can pick out the ones we really don't need to ever talk to in a crowd...
I'd agree they are an unnecessary feature just not that the placement was wrong if they have to have it.

sell this at iPad mini price, and it'd probably do pretty well. at £400... yeah i don't see it doing too well.

seems a fair price to me for what is obviously a premium product. If it's anything like the amazing Xperia Z phone it should do well. iPad only does so well because of Apple's slick marketing. The OS is actually not that great though I concede that it does have some great apps.

JanSt / MOD  Mar. 22, 2013 at 09:18

Explain Apple's slick marketing?

A very nice tablet, but Sony really need to be more competitive with their pricing if they want to sell a lot of these.

A premium Sony offering at £250-300 will make waves, a Sony offering in iPad range will not.

True, especially in the 10-in realm while 7-8-inchers are the hot cake...
