Sony Xperia Z1 vs, um, Motorola Moto G...

Just got my paws on a Moto G - on KitKat, sim-free.
The killer for me: I transferred the same 1,200 photos that are stored on 'my' Z1
to the budget Moto. Now, remember, the Z1 is 4 to 5 times the money, and it's being hyped as a great camera-centric flagship.

In side-by-side use, guess which of the two phones opens the gallery faster, and shows all the piccie goodness without painful lag while thumbs are being generated?

Yep. The Moto G is faster at pretty much everything.

Well,...
Just thought I'd mention this.

It's meant to be a damn good phone, the Moto G. I may well end up getting one in the next few weeks, depending on what Samsung say about my poorly Note 2.

Mind you, I used the 'G' for just over 2 hours so far, but it is impressive.
It feels very solid, the screen is lovely, the Kite Kat update came instantly, and everything is very snappy.
And I like the size. It's about the size of an iPhone 5S in a case; very nicely useable with one hand.
Lastly, I took a few snapshots, and though it's just a 5MP shooter without any grande heritage a la Carl-Zeiss, it gets the job done adequately.

For the price I can only recommend it.

It still baffles me how it gets like six and a half hours screen on time.

hahaha....
Granted - the Z1 has absolutely excellent battery performance.
I wasn't posting this to discredit the Z1, but we are living in odd times. I'd say for most people - the vast majority, actually - the G is as much phone as they could currently want. And it costs
a quarter of whatb some devices cost that don't perform much better - give or take a feature (camera e.g.). Having said that: I'm always stupefied using high-end Android devices (especially camera-centric ones) that really really suck in certain aspects.
Especially the Android Gallery app...wtf? I can dump 10000 photos onto an iPhone 5 or Lumia and the gallery opens instantly and displays thumbs without lag.
The Z1 struggles with 300 photos. The Galaxy Camera? LOL - 50 high res pics and the gallery takes a minute to show a new photo :D

*whispers* stop using that app

Aren't those buffering them before you go to look at them though on iphone and Lumia?

Wonder if the z1 gets rather quicker without Sony's enhancements. Is the Moto G you've got on Kitkat Jan?

I really don't give a flying f*ck how it's achieved. The fact that high-end Android CAMERA flGSHIPS CANNOT OPEN a photo you just took instantly is pathetic. The fact that you get more than just 'noticeably lag' when openinng an album with 200 photos IS pathetic.
I donn't care why that is. I really don't.

PS: granted, the Z1 has a sh*load of bloat. I'm sure it could be faster
