Sony Xperia Z2's camera - best for Android?

Does the Sony Xperia Z2 have the best Android camera? I think it has the highest megapixels: 20.7MP.

Sony's problem is that they tend to put decent cameras/lenses on their phones, then compress the hell out of the images during the storage phase. It may therefore be that Z2 does have better images from the same hardware depending on how much they've updated the camera software between the two devices...

Nope. I was very very disappointed when I had the Z1 (essentially the same camera afaik).
In good light photos looked washed out and dull. In low light totally oversaturated...
Video was probably the worst I have seen from a highend phone in 18 months.

The HTC One M7/M8 have their problem areas, but they are better overall. SGS4 and 5 also.
The Z1 and 2 need you to really fiddle with settings to get a spectacular shot.

Here's an interesting review - especially the bit about the Auto mode only capturing at 8MP...

In fairness to Sony - there really is no one smartphone camera that does it all equally brilliant.
Maybe living in the mostly dull west of Ireland makes me crave images that are a bit more vivid
than reality? Of the hundreds of pics I took with the Z1 not one inspired me to keep it or even try and improve it with some editing. Dull dull dull...
And as I said: I didn't use the Z1, and I hadn't realised that they fiddled the software...
