Sony Xperia Z4 Music heading to MWC in March?

Sony Xperia Z4 Music heading to MWC in March? As detailed in our CES 2015 awards feature, the Sony Walkman ZX2 was one of the strangest new devices last week, largely on account of its £949 price tag. Hit up if you fancy pre-ordering.

On a similar note (pun intended), the Japanese manufacturer is tipped to be bringing a Walkman-fuelled Sony Xperia Z4 Music to Mobile World Congress (MWC) in March.

The Sony Xperia Z4 Music was initially shared by Chinese-language iGeek, though - mercifully - the specs appear in English. Phew.

Sony Xperia Z4 Music specs include a 4in display (1,440 x 720), quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor clocked at 2.3GHz, 3GB of RAM, and the choice of 32 or 128GB internal storage.

There’s also an 8MP rear camera (not quite on par with Sony’s traditional high-end 20.7MP) and fairly modest 2,000mAh battery, the latter perhaps optimistically promising “Up to 2 days battery”.

On the audio side of things, the Sony Xperia Z4 Music promises Hi-Res audio playback of DSD, WAV, AIFF, ALAC, FLAC and more, and we’ve an S-Force PRO Front surround speaker with S-Master digital amplifier technology.

The Sony Xperia Z4 Music comes in black (32GB) or silver, purple, gold and green (128GB), though there’s no mention of price just yet. Let's hope it's far south of the £949 Walkman ZX2.

Assuming the Sony Xperia Z4 Music is legit, it could be just one of several variants of the plain old Xperia Z4. We’ve also been told to brace for an Xperia Z4 Compact, Xperia Z4 Ultra and Xperia Z4 Tablet Ultra.

That screen res is... interesting. it's a 2:1 aspect ratio, but a lovely 402ppi @ 4". Combined with a snapdragon 801 and 3gb ram, if the camera isn't awful that could well be a serious iPhone 5S (and possible 6C) contender. I'm sure there's plenty of iPhone users who love the 4" form factor still and feel a bit abandoned by apple's bigger sizes.
