The Sony Xperia Z3 has only just been released, but in typical Sony Mobile fashion (for now, anyway), we’re expecting a successor within the next six months
Here, a press release from Sony Global appears to the indicate that the Sony Xperia Z4 might be released in April 2015.
Sony has just announced the industry’s first – wait for it – “Stacked CMOS Image Sensor with an Image Plane Phase Detection Signal Processing Function for High-Speed AF”, the EXMOR RS IMX230. It'll start shipping in - you guessed it - April 2015.
In slightly simpler terms, we’re looking at a 21MP sensor, capable of 4K video and image capture, with HDR (High Dynamic Range) support and high-speed autofocus.
Or, in even simpler terms, the camera should be better than the 20.7MP offering found on the current Sony Xperia Z3.
Sony has announced a press event for CES 2015 in Las Vegas, but considering that’d be just four months after the launch of the Xperia Z3 at IFA in Berlin, we’re thinking February’s Mobile World Congress is more likely for the Xperia Z4 launch.
Rumoured Sony Xperia Z4 specs include a 5.5in QHD display, 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor and 4GB of RAM. It doesn’t get much more high-end than that.
Don’t worry if you’re struggling to keep up with all these Sony flagships. The Japanese manufacturer is tipped to can the biannual nonsense, and launch just one new flagship each year. Er, starting with the Sony Xperia Z4.
