Getting Spotify from my iPhone through to my TV

My living room set-up has SKY and Xbox going into my TV.

Anything that's playing on my TV (TV, DVD, games) goes through my (ancient but still functional) stereo.

What I want is to be able to stream Spotify music from my iPhone to my TV, and out through the speakers. My TV is a Smart TV, but you can't get a Spotify app, strangely.

Any suggestions? Sorry, this is like a riddle ;)

It seems like one of the best ways to do this is to use an apple TV, then it as simple as pressing the airplay icon on your iphone and selecting the apple tv. I guess a downside to this is that you have to drop around £79.00 on an apple tv, but the upside is it works seamlessly.

get a splitter. Also: the cable out wouldn';t affect iMessages etc... Anyhoo. I'm old-fashioned.
A Stream, in my book, is something your enemies float by in... :p

The stereo only has one input?
So what inputs do you have available on the tv?
Don't the consoles have spotify available?
Hmmm

Apple TV, then use Airplay. Also works for video. HDMI into TV. If you're sure you only want audio, then an Airport Express does the same, with a 3.5mm jack that can go into some aux in arrangement on the TV.

Can't be done without some sort of cabling. Either iPhone to stereo, iPhone to TV or buy a Now TV box (£9.99) and download the Spotify app. Personally, I would take the last option as the cables will cost you most of that anyway and the Now TV box is a lot more useful (and a cleaner solution to the problem) assuming you have a spare HDMI port.

Hi again!

@JanSt - I'd prefer to keep the iPhone free of cables ideally. And if I can nail a streaming solution I could use my iPad too (since the music is coming from Spotify).

@Pondlife - Yes, just one input on the stereo. Just realised it's almost 20 years old lol. The TV is a Panasonic Smart TV so has all mod cons. And with Xbox Microsoft wants you to use Microsoft Music so no Spotify app, grr! I think maybe you can get PS3 Spotify, but it's in the man cave :p

@chinnyraccoon - Airport Express is new to me, thanks. But only marginally cheaper than full blown Apple TV?

@satchef1 - It MUST be possible without cabling. It's 2014 buddy ;) But Now TV is only £9.99!?! Very interesting option, thanks.

Well like he says there is still cabling but not from the phone.
Well there are bluetooth adaptors for connection to stereos on ebay and Belkin make one too, just connect to tv instead.
Mind you as he said those may be more than the now tv box...

Literally the only thing I can find is a post by one of the ZappoTV team saying they are looking at this as a future possibility for their app. 2014 or not, your existing kit cannot stream Spotify. Blame iOS for being so locked down and reliant on Airplay instead of DLNA, or the Xbox or TV for not having a Spotify app or Airplay support. No matter which way you swing it, right now you are one bit of kit short. You need one of the following;

Devices that can stream Spotify to DLNA compatible devices (you need an extra application to do it) :
Android phones and tablets
Windows PCs and tablets (not RT)
Macs

Airplay compatible devices:
AppleTV
Airport Express
An Airplay compatible stereo or reciever

Devices that can stream Spotify directly:
Xbox One
NowTV box
Boxee box
Roku player
Sonos devices

Cables to connect the iPhone to the TV or stereo:
3.5mm to 3.5mm male to male cable
3.5mm to stereo RCA cable
An iPhone AV adaptor to hook the iPhone up to the TV.

This is by no means an exhaustive list, but you get the idea. Without an extra bit of kit in the equation, you cannot get Spotify playing through your stereo. The cleanest solution is to buy a device that can stream Spotify directly, and the cheapest of these is the NowTV box. The AppleTV would let you stream video to your TV as well as audio, so maybe there's some appeal there? Or the Xbox One for more evident reasons?
