Spotify announced a few pretty cool additions to it's popular service this week, introducing video playback and podcast support, behavioural recommendations and a new host of tools for runners.
The inclusion of video playback isn't likely to set the world on fire, it is however pretty interesting given Spotify's partnership with a whole pile of well known content creators, including BBC, NBC, Comedy Central, Adult Swim and ESPN. This isn't going to work with watching entire TV shows or films, it's more for news clips, skits and short pieces such as music videos.
Also included in the update is the much hyped Spotify Now, intelligent playlist curation which aims to serve you the right kind of music, day or night depending on your habits and the way your tastes adapt.
Coupled with behavioural recommendations, Spotify also introduced a new addition for runners everywhere. Spotify Running detects, learns and matches your tempo, feeding music to match your pace and improve your performance. Nike+ and Runkeeper will be partnering with the service later this year .
These updates are rolling out this week to iPhone users in the US, UK, Germany and Sweden and will be hitting users elsewhere soon.
