We’ve been hearing about the ST25i Kumquat over the past week-and-a-bit, and praying to our respective Gods that it launches with a more palatable name. Not that we don’t like kumquats.
It sounds like those prayers have been answered, as the Indonesian equivalent of the FCC reveals that the ST25i Kumquat will go under the name Sony Xperia U.
The E-word appears too – Sony Ericsson Xperia U – but we expect it’ll be dropped when the smartphone comes to market.
The LT26i appears on the same document, with Ericsson, but of course it launched at CES as the Sony Xperia S.
It appears that Sony is adopting a new naming strategy, but it’s not one we can get our noggins around. I mean, the Sony Xperia S has better specs than the Sony Xperia U, and we’d expect the former to be at the higher end of any naming spectrum.
Speaking of specs, the Sony Xperia U is expected to debut at Mobile World Congress with a 3.5in display (480x854 resolution), 1GHz dual-core processor and 5MP camera.
We’ll be flying out to Barcelona for a gander in just over four weeks.
