Steam beta app drops on iOS and Android

Steam beta app drops on iOS and AndroidThe gamers among you will no doubt be familiar with Valve’s Steam, particularly if you use a PC. If you’ve never heard of it before, Steam is essentially a digital gaming distribution thingy with sexy community stuff.

Now you can log into your Steam account on the go, with the all-new Steam app for Android and iOS. Well, sort of. Y'see, it’s currently in closed beta.

With the Steam app, you’ll be able to chat with your Steam friends, browse user profiles, view screenshots and even buy content.

“The Steam app comes from many direct requests from our customers,” screamed Gabe Newell, co-founder and president of Valve. “Seeing which of your friends are online and playing a game, sending quick messages, looking at screenshots for an upcoming game, or catching a sale -- these are all features customers have requested.

“Mobile is changing way people interact, play games and consume media, and the Steam app is part of our commitment to meet customer demands and expand the service functionality of Steam to make it richer and more accessible for everyone.”

To register your interest, simply download the free app from the App Store or Android Market and attempt to sign in.

There are over 40 million Steam accounts worldwide with over 1,800 titles on offer. Valve remains one of my favourite developers, with games such as Left 4 Dead, Portal and Half-Life under its belt.
