With Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2015 just around the corner and a slew of imminent new Android flagships, we had visions of rolling around in piles of Samsung Galaxy S6s and HTC One M9s and Sony Xperia Z4s come March.
But nope, it’s suggested that the Sony Xperia Z4 won’t launch at MWC - or even Q1. In fact, it’ll be “summer” before we meet the Japanese manufacturer’s next big thing. Aww man.
So says Xperia Blog, without crediting anyone in particular. Not even a mysterious “person familiar with the matter”.
The guys simply “understand” that “right now Sony is planning a ‘summer’ release for its next generation phones.”
Since the launch of the original Xperia Z in January 2013, Sony has updated its flagship roughly every six months, following up with the Xperia Z1, Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z3.
With the Sony Xperia Z2 launching at last year’s MWC, and the Xperia Z3 landing at IFA 2014 in September, it was loosely expected that the Xperia Z4 would launch at MWC 2015, which gets underway on March 2.
Having said that, it’s been largely pretty quiet on the Sony Xperia Z4 front, while the Samsung Galaxy S6, for example, has been leaked to high heaven.
While initially disappointing, this could actually be a blessing in disguise. We’re generally flooded with smartphone launches at MWC (February/March) and IFA (September) each year, so the Sony Xperia Z4 could give us something to look forward to in the traditional lull.
Yeah, you know what? We’re actually ok with this “summer” thing. On a similar note, LG has said it’s taking its time getting the LG G4 right. Good stuff.
