Hitachi and Toshiba have already announced smartphones with tablet-esque 1280x720 resolutions, and – according to OLED-Info – Samsung’s Super AMOLED HD display technology might be just around the corner.
That’s the story according to two “industry insiders”, one of whom is a Samsung supplier.
OLED-Info suggests we can expect 5-6in Super AMOLED HD smartphones in autumn this year. Bloody big smartphones, then. That’s firmly into tablet territory. Even 4.5in is a bit of a stretch.
One of those giant Super AMOLED HD phones is thought to be the Samsung GT-I9220. Possibly. A leaked roadmap briefly suggested a 5.3in display, though that was soon changed to 4.3in. Samsung later said the roadmap was nonsense. Salt please.
The technology is also expected in 7in tablets before the end of the year. We’re awaiting an announcement from Samsung about its own new 7in tablet. The original Samsung Galaxy Tab is getting on a bit now.
