Is it possible to sync iMessages on an iPhone and iPad?

Is it possible to sync iMessages on an iPhone and iPad? So that new iMessages go to the iPad too?
Some messages come through to both, but only for one contact..... I think.

Yes, you should be able to maintain iMessage conversations across multiple iDevices.
What's important is this: your contacts must reach you under the same 'caller ID' - on iPhones that is usually your phone number by default; while on the iPad it is your Apple account email.
Obviously, if no phone number is assigned to your iPad, it cannot receive iMessages sent to a phone number. So: your 'caller ID' (or 'send/receive ID') oughta be your Apple account email address! It is described in the thread below.

So, on both devices, in Settings => iMessages set the send/receive ID to the same email account that you registered with Apple.
