Tablet or smartphone for gaming?

I have a really basic dumbphone at the moment, but it’s fine for texting and calling. My question is: if I want to play games, should I get a tablet or a smartphone? Is it worth paying more for a tablet?

Where do you intend to play? Would you be mostly at home, or out and about? I have both, tablet and smartphone, and use both for a little light gaming.

When I am out and about, I usually ahve my phone on me, so can play little games if I am bored. But at home, I have the tablet to hand all the time, and use it for many little gaming apps. I defintely like the bigger screen for gaming, makes it a more fun experience. There are a few decent games too, such as Infiinity Blade, which is brilliant on the ipad.

I had a Samsung Galaxy Tab for a month last year. At the same time I had a HTC Desire HD. I gotta say, For a quick game-fix I preferred the phone. For longer gaming at home a console beats tab and phone.
On the go? Heck, the phone obviously. I'd feel like an idiot getting out a tab in the dentist's waiting room or on the bus - I'm shy :p :D

Good point - I would be playing at home.
Also good point - a console beats tablet and phone.
Ok now I'm confused! (_;)

I whipped out the iPad for a spot of on the go gaming while waiting for a hospital appointment. I've also had quite a few people come up to me and say, "Is that one of those kindles?" 8)

Cool, if you will be playing at home why would you need phone or tablet?
For home you need good 50"+ flat screen with nice surround system. I prefer computer to any console, but many people would disagree with me.
