Eight tablets under £250 – part 1

Eight tablets under £250 – part 1Time was, there wasn’t much in the way of choice if you wanted a decent tablet, but these days we’re thoroughly spoiled, particularly when looking at the “’tweener” category (circa 7in).

Here I’m scribbling about the first four of eight ‘tweener tablets available for less than £250, and glancing at my notes it looks like a pretty decent list (if I say so myself).

As always, feel free to chime in below if you have any suggestions, but bear in mind there’s still part two to come next week.

Ready? Crank it.

Eight tablets under £250 – part 11. iPad mini

Yes, arguably the biggest name in tablets, the iPad, is officially now available for less than £250. More specifically, you’re getting the £16GB first-generation iPad mini for £249.

In fact, using code TDX-CP4D, you can knock £20 off the white 16GB iPad mini at Tesco Direct, making it £232 delivered. Lovely.

Display size: 7.9in (1024 x 768)

iPad mini specs: dual-core Apple A5 processor, 5MP rear camera, 1.2MP FaceTime camera

Price: £232 delivered @ Tesco Direct

Eight tablets under £250 – part 12. Nook HD

If you can find it in stock, the Nook HD is a great little 7in tablet buy. Barnes & Noble are seemingly ditching the tablet market (just as things are heating up), and the Nook HDs are being sold off in what pretty much amounts to a fire sale. Good times.

And in a neat twist, the Nook HD was recently granted access to the full Google Play app store.

I’ve managed to track down the 8GB Nook HD with home delivery on Asda Direct, where it’s selling for £79 plus £2.95 delivery.

Display size: 7in (1440 x 900)

Nook HD specs: dual-core TI OMAP processor, 8GB storage with microSD slot

Price: £81.95 delivered @ Asda Direct

Eight tablets under £250 – part 13. Amazon Kindle Fire HD

Amazon actually has a multitude of Kindle Fire HD tablets under £250, including the new Kindle Fire HDX from £199, and the Kindle Fire HD 8.9 – also now from £199.

Here, I’m looking at the bottom-of-the-range chap, the plain old Amazon Kindle Fire HD. It starts at just £119 for the 8GB, while £139 gets you 16GB storage.

Standout features on the Amazon Kindle Fire HD include its HD display, and the promise of 10 hours battery life.

Display size: 7in (1280 x 800)

Amazon Kindle Fire HD specs: dual-core 1.5GHz processor, dual stereo speakers

Price: £119 delivered @ Amazon

Eight tablets under £250 – part 14. Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0

Searching for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 on our hallowed pages, it doesn’t look like we’ve written about it in any official capacity. Oops.

In any case, it often sells for close to £200, but you can currently grab it from Amazon for just £119.99 delivered. Can’t argue with that!

To be clear, this is the 8GB Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0, available in either Golden Brown or Black (the White is a tad more expensive at £145).

Display size: 7in (600 x 1024)

Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 specs: microSD slot, 3.15MP rear camera, 1.3MP front camera, dual-core 1.2GHz processor, Android Jelly Bean

Price: £119.99 delivered @ Amazon
