With O2 recently rolling out its 4G service, it stands to reason that Tesco Mobile, an MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator) piggybacking Big Blue, wouldn’t be far behind.
Indeed, Tesco Mobile has delivered, and its 4G weighs in at just £2.50 per month for pay monthly and SIM only customers.
Tesco Mobile’s 4G effectively acts as a bolt-on for its existing tariffs (encompassing 500MB to 8GB), in the sense that you can add or remove it from month to month.
And that’s pretty much the size of it. It’s an incredibly simple proposition, with no specific 4G tariffs.
That means the cheapest Tesco Mobile 4G SIM only tariff starts at £10PM (£7.50 + £2.50), for 250 minutes, 500 texts and 500MB of data.
At the top end of the SIM only scale, a 12-month £20PM deal gets you 3,000 minutes, 5,000 texts and 2GB of data, so that's £22.50 with 4G.
Of course, Tesco Mobile also has various 4G handsets for sale, namely the HTC One, Nokia Lumia 920, Nokia Lumia 925, Samsung Galaxy S4 mini, Samsung Galaxy S4, Samsung Galaxy Ace 3, and the Sony Xperia SP.
With regards to the iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s, Tesco Mobile says 4G will become available “over the coming weeks”.
