Tesco tops Which? survey

Tesco tops Which? surveyTesco has topped a Which? survey of pay monthly and SIM only mobile operators. The operators were scored based on customer service, range of handsets, cost, cost of use while abroad, and accuracy & clarity of bills.

The supermarket giant managed an overall score of 74%. Meanwhile, there’s not much to separate O2, T-Mobile, Virgin Mobile and Vodafone, who sit on 61, 59, 58 and 57% respectively.

Firmly at the bottom of the table, Orange and Three scored a rather pathetic 53 and 49%. Three was worst overall for customer service.

In PAYG world, Asda takes the gold medal, pushing Tesco and O2 into second and third place. Three manages a more respectable fourth (out of eight), while T-Mobile falls to last place.

The Tesco customer sample size is considerably smaller than the other networks so it could have a drastically skewed positive/negative bias on the results so I wouldn't put much faith in this.

I notice coverage/reception in general and 3G coverage are not even part of the scoring, surely this is one of the most important factors? I know it is to me.

@Andy247 You are absolutely right. I find it very odd that an 'institution' such as Which would flaunt such basic rules of statistical analysis!
Do they all just want a slice of the phone-hype-cake? #poor

Problem is that one provider might have awful reception in one place, but be the strongest in another so it's a postcode lottery and something that you can't really rate reliably.

Very true, seems like a very odd survey, i'm inclined to think JanSt is right and they just felt a bit unloved and needed some Mobot attention.

Not the only time that a Which? survey has found Tesco to come out on top, based upon extremely questionable samples http://www.hattongardenmetals.com/News/Which-Review-Tesco-Gold-Exchange.aspx
