What happens if you try to tether with giffgaff?

Does it just not work? How do they know you're tethering?!

We don't have Giffgaff in Ireland, but usually the networks will block the tether after a use or two if they do not want you to tether.
How do they know? They know everything you do with your phone. 'Nuff said ;)

I use barnacle to tether my laptop thru my San Francisco on giffgaff sometimes for days at a time, cant see how they can tell the difference between surfing on your phone or on your laptop tethered to your phone

They can see, they just usually can't be bothered to do anything about it. That is unless you use epic amounts of data watching HD videos and the like. Use broadband for your HQ porn ;).

Data being sent from a PC contains all kinds of stuff you won't find on a phone. Windows Update checks, time server syncs, etc etc. It wouldn't take them long to spot if they were bothered. If you're not being a nuisance, though, what do they gain by stopping you?

That is until the day O2 decides to charge them a wee bit more for their bandwidth.
