What's a "tethered" jailbreak?

On the iPhone, what does a "tethered" jailbreak mean?

Actually I thimk youve got that backwards. Tethered means that every time you power down and power back up the iPhone it has to be connected to a PC and the Jailbreaking PC software run. essentially it means your phone is unusable should you run out of power or have to restart it until you get back hime

Ideally youd want to stick to the untethered jailbreaks as then you dont need to be near the PC when powering down and up

Phone will remain jailbroken after restart.
