This one is up there with Ballmer touting baldness as the World’s Coolest Haircut and Stephen Elop thinking that Canada has the best national anthem in the history of national anthems.
We’re hearing that Apple CEO Tim Cook really doesn’t like OLED displays. Quelle surprise, as the French say.
That’s the story according to CNET, and some words relayed from an investor conference. Indeed, Cook described OLED as “awful”.
OLED appears in a number of different smartphones, including the Nokia Lumia 820, but we can’t help but feel that Cook’s words are primarily aimed at the Samsung Galaxy S III and its Super AMOLED set-up.
"If you ever buy anything online and really want to know what the color is, as many people do, you should really think twice before you depend on the color from an OLED display," growled Cook.
Needless to say, Timothy thinks Apple’s Retina display is the best thing ever.
Screen technology preference can be quite a subjective thing, but hey, I love my PS Vita’s 5in OLED display.
One thing I do agree with is Tim’s cynicism regarding the spec race, with a huge influx of quad-core 5in 1080p devices. Cook reckons the primary focus should be to "create an amazing experience." Hear hear.
