Toshiba lining up 7in tablet for CES reveal

Toshiba lining up 7in tablet for CES revealYou've got to hand it to Toshiba: it's giving the tablet thing a real go, despite the fact that the first two have largely failed to take off.

A leaked product shot on Notebook Italia suggests that Tosh is preparing a 7in slate to launch at CES 2012 in Vegas next week, while the super-slim AT200, or the Excite, should be in attendance too.

Toshiba's debut Android tablet, the Folio 100, was widely panned when it launched in 2010 and while last year's Thrive has proved a more decent follow-up, it's a decidedly chunky beast at 15mm thick.

Since then we've seen the announcement of the Excite, or the AT200, which at just 7.7mm thick comes in at the other end of the scale. So what can we expect from this latest Tosh tab?

Well, from the looks of things we're back in chunky-land, with Notebook Italia claiming the 7in slate will be aimed at the entry-level tablet buyer.

We're told to expect a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, a 1024 x 600 display, and Android 3.2 Honeycomb – no Ice Cream Sandwich here, m'afraid.

Toshiba is also set to give another airing to the Excite, the “world's thinnest and lightest 10.1in tablet”, in Vegas too. We first heard of the Excite a good few months ago now, but Toshiba didn't announce a release date. Hopefully the long wait will see as looking at some Tegra 3 action, and possibly Ice Cream Sandwich too. We'll know next week.

I like the "chunky" Thrive, actually. Its hardware feels like it means business. Great connectivity options, also.
And the same quality absence of any real purpose in life that all Android tabs have displayed thus far.
Oh, wait. Games. Cheap, mostly pirated games. Yay..
