Toshiba Thrive Ice Cream Sandwich update slips to autumn

Toshiba Thrive Ice Cream Sandwich update slips to autumnYou remember the 10.1in Toshiba Thrive, right? Also known as the AT100, it was first revealed in January 2011, and finally released eight – count ‘em – months later. There’s also a 7in variant in some territories.

Well, there’s more bad news for Toshiba Thrive owners where Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) is concerned. Originally scheduled for spring, it’s now slipped to autumn. Oh dear.

A post on the Toshiba blog explains: “We are working hard to bring Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich to our Thrive tablets. While we originally estimated it would be ready this spring, we now estimate the update will be delivered to all Thrive 10” and 7” tablets by early fall.

“Apologies for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience.”

Toshiba’s significantly slimmer Excite range (including 7.7, 10 and 13.3in flavours) ships with Ice Cream Sandwich.

It’s not clear what the hold up is with Ice Cream Sandwich for the Toshiba Thrive, but we suspect it might be because 17 units were sold across the globe.

I think the AT10 Thrive is the best of the Android Tablet crop. Sturdy, utilitarian design, sh*tloads of connectivity. But Toshiba are the kings of PC bloat, so: I hate them :p

I'm not going to lie, if Lewis hadn't have included a picture, I wouldn't have been able to pull up a mental image of the Thrive...

Bare with me on this but the Toshiba Thrive is arguably the best Android Tablet out there, with the advent vega a close second (ot at least they were when I was looking at tablets)

Why? The Thrive has a full size USB, HDMI, SD slot, replaceable battery and a dock that has power, USB, HDMI out and mirroring so you can dock it and use it as a media centre. The vega is close behind on the specs but doesn't have as good support with the OS

Unfortnanatly a lot of the Andeoid manufacturers forget that it's an uphill battle against the iPad and so they forget some of these essential features on their tablets

If I wasn't so lazy, I would have added that to my comment => Bare with me on this but the Toshiba Thrive is arguably the best Android Tablet out there, with the advent vega a close second (ot at least they were when I was looking at tablets)
