Toshiba has been talking up its Honeycomb-powered Thrive tablet for months now, even going so far as to claim its slate is superior to the iPad 2.
Now it finally looks like Mr Joseph Public will be able to put that claim to the test, as Toshiba has announced that the Thrive will officially be available to pre-order on June 13.
Sadly, that's just in the US, however – Toshiba has said that while we will certainly be getting some kind of Tosh tablet action here in the UK, it won't be the Thrive.
But either way, the Thrive certainly signals Toshiba's intentions to make a serious go of this whole tablet thing, which bodes well for whatever hardware we do get to see on UK shores.
Most of the specs we already knew: the Thrive features an Nvidia dual-core processor, a 10.1in screen, a 5-megapixel camera round the back and a 2-megapixel affair facing the front, an HDMI port, SD card slot and mini-USB port. Android Honeycomb 3.1 is the operating system.
Toshiba is pricing the Thrive competitively too. The base 8GB comes in at just $429 – that's cheaper than the entry-level iPad 2 – while the top-end 32GB variant is pegged at $579.
The Thrive will officially go on sale on July 10 over in the US, and we'll be sure to keep you up to speed on any UK Tosh tab action as soon as we hear anything.
