Transfer texts from Android to Android

How would I go about transferring the old texts from my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 to my new Sony Xperia Z1 Compact?

Can I merge the old texts with the new ones I've received in the past few days.

Thanks :D

Used it the other day, sent my backup to my Gmail, then downloaded it to new phone.

@JanSt I'm usually the same but I'm currently organising a Stag Do, so needed some of the messages.

I have been active on mobile forums for 10 years+... to this day I do not understand why people
want to hold on to old messages?!
It's bad enough the NSA have them all... Why would I keep them?

Oh, and: I'm not sure. I have given up on Android a while ago.
I'm certain there is a way.
I'll pin your question to the frontpage for more attention ;)

@sprucey I think I kept around 4 sms...I just took screenies and emailed them to myself... That is how lazy I am.

I was always chuckling years ago on Esato or Ixplora when people where whining because some phone could 'only' store 5000 messages
or contacts... For reals? :p
