Typical BlackBerry users are old and wealthy

Typical BlackBerry users are old and wealthyWith the recent reshuffle at RIM, comScore data mine decided to take a closer look at the average BlackBerry user, particularly in terms of age, salary and payment responsibility.

Essentially, BlackBerry users are old, wealthy, and quite often don’t pay their own freakin’ bills. I feel a song coming on… # Pay my telephone bills, pay my automo’ bills #

The most popular age group for BlackBerry users is 55-64, closely followed by 45-54 and 35-44 year-olds. The awesomest group, those aged 25-34, were in fact the second least popular, with only slightly more users than the childish and immature 18-24s.

Looking at income, BlackBerry users are most likely to rake in more than $100k, followed by $75k to <$100k and $50k to <$75k.

As for payment, taking care of their own bill is the least likely scenario. BlackBerry owners are more likely to have at least part of their bill taken care of by work, but the most likely scenario is having their employer foot the entire bill.

That ties in with some BlackBerry PlayBook owner stats I mentioned yesterday, indicating that 72% are 35+, 84% are male, and their average income is $78k. Interesting.

this is in the us. in the uk, I could swear its the opposite - most people between 13-21 pack bb's from the looks of it, for the whole bbm hype. iphones are up there too...

Treab  Jan. 28, 2012 at 17:01

I've gotta say I've noticed that maybe its due to bb's low priced phones like 8520 or phones their parents had from work which they dont use

matt101101 / MOD  Jan. 28, 2012 at 22:58

I think the 8520 caused more trouble than it was worth in 2011 with all those "poor", people rioting (so poor they have a smartphone...).

In the UK the BB is definitely the phone of the chav, not the businessman, nowadays.

Matt, matt, matt...
That poor people with smartphones slur doesn't work.
Nevermind that you don't need to be poor to riot or protest or "occupy", but:
It's a nonsense reactionary argument. First thing you're told when you lose a job and look for a new job is: get a phone so you are communicado. Same when you're in desperate need accommodation: what, no phone? Pah, no chance.
Which is why there are plenty of charities to provide homeless people with phones.
Furthermore: it's not that people are all born "poor" - these days it is easy to go from have to have-not in 3 short months. People lose almost everything fast, but not completely: I know folks who lost the jobs and their house, but they hold on to some possessions for as long as they can to be able to "represent" - that car, at least one set of good clothes for interviews, and yes - a phone cause their broadband and mac belongs to the bank that belongs to the IMF...
As to the chavs and thugs and criminals with expensive gadgets - that is neither new nor surprising, is it? Criminals used computer "networks" before the rest of us. They usually have better weapons, and prettier girlfriends (watch some Hollywood, man)...

I always laugh when some Teapartiers on Twitter becry the occupy movement's equipedness - as if an iPhone means the banker-thugs cannot screw up your life.
I know, I know - there were some real sh*ts involved in the UK riots, but they hardly represent the BB-fanclub. Without BBs they woulda used mass-sms or pagers or drumpatterns to get their message around.
I assume you were being sarcastic, but I shall keep in eye on the matter...

Oops...I set off an accidental Jan rant :p. Yeah, I was joking about BBs being the cause of the riots, I'm sure WhatsApp or iMessage would have worked just as well. I was also joking about poor people having smartphones, afterall a low end BB costs barely any more than a PAYG device (in fact the 8520 is widely available on PAYG).

I wasn't joking about BBs bring the phone of the chav. BBM for some reason appeals massively to those who wear a tracksuit for activities other than sports.

That rant, btw, was pre-coffee ;)

Treab  Jan. 29, 2012 at 13:46

Well then drink red bull now that's a way to wake up....

But Matt are you calling Jan a chav due to his love affair with the bold 9900 Jan should moderate you

JanSt / MOD  Jan. 29, 2012 at 13:58

Red Bull is filth. Toxic idiotic disgusting liquid snuff...for sissies

matt101101 / MOD  Jan. 29, 2012 at 14:08

Treab, not once have I seen anyone I'd consider to be a Chav using a 9900, I'm not going to lie, I've never seen anyone with a 9900...

Jan, I agree, Red Bull it total crap, if anyone's that desperate for caffeine it's available in tablet form without the massive amounts of sugar and chemicals (or just set your alarm clock 15 mins earlier in the morning so you don't need to get up so quickly).
