Why won't an u2 sim work in a Tesco bought phone ( lg optimus )

I bought an lg phone from a colleague which us 6 months old. She purchased it from Tesco. I have an o2 sim but it says on the screen aim service locked. It was bought outright by her so no contract. Can anyone advise how to make it work. Do I have to pay to get it unlocked. Thanks

because tesco phones are double locked.locked to tesco locked to o2 thats why when you unlock tesco phones you have to enter nck code followed by spk code for it to work.

PAYG phones technically aren't "bought outright". The reason companies can sell PAYG phones cheaper than you'd expect is that they aim to make (more) money by you topping up with airtime. Hence, the reason many PAYG phones are locked when purchased.

Blizzard7's unfortunately right. Technically speaking, buying a network's pre-pay phone, you enter a contract with them 'promising' to use their network. They give you a warranty, make network available etc etc... Unlocking it with hacks or codes off of ebay voids that warranty. That's how it is. 'outright' bought...buy simfree in 3rd party stores or directly from manufacturer.

Some of the non-network shops sell "PAYG" phones that are not locked, such as Carphone Warehouse. Best to shop around and ask questions in shop before buying.
