The ugliest iPhone case ever?

The ugliest iPhone case ever? The late Steve Jobs was legendary in his eye for design detail and fastidious that nothing should compromise it. He wanted Apple's goods to look sleek and evoke certain emotions.

Can you imagine what he would say if he could see the Aqua Tek S case? The words 'turning in his grave' spring to mind.

It's a case for the iPhone 4 and 4S and, as you've probably gathered by now, it's not expecting to win any prizes for its looks. But when it comes to rugged indestructability, it could be a different story.

The Aqua Tek S is waterproof to 20 feet, and can withstand drops, falls and accidental spills. The outer shell is made from poly-carbonate materials with rubber grips for added protection, and that fetching colour scheme you see before you is described as "signal orange, black night and urban camo". It even has its own solar panel and space for an extra battery to add to your iPhone's existing power supply.

Unfortunately, it also literally makes your iPhone look like the proverbial brick. Ugly. As. Hell. Although that last part isn't in the press release.

It's not available yet - in fact, the group behind it - Snow Lizard Products - is is trying to get funding through the Kickstarter scheme and is currently seeking $75,000. When it does finally become available, however, expect to be able to pick one up for the equivalent of around $130.

"Unfortunately, it also literally makes your iPhone look like the proverbial brick. Ugly. As. Hell. Although that last part isn't in the press release."

A very reasonable looking product as soon as you realise it's intended market.
Silly article. Nobody is going to make a screw together, rugged water proof case complete with rubber handles and solar power, to look emotive and sleek. What next, review those chunky yellow underwater video camera cases as ugly?

Not once did I say it should be sleek. But the fact remains it's ugly as hell. Or do you disagree? What a ridiculous comment!

steady on Phil, I think he makes a good point and you have reacted rather badly !

Nole1  Feb. 17, 2012 at 04:28

Yes Phil, a bit harsh, i think the case looks cool for what its suppose to do.

It's ugly, but it serves a purpose. The colour makes sense when you take it snorkeling or on a building site. And you don't want sleek when handling it with wet hands...
90 % of the iPhone cases in the shop next door are, imho, uglier without serving a single useful purpose.

But yes, it's nothing to impress your Valwentine in the club :p

In fairness, guys: there's a questionmark at the end of the title. And Phil says, "of course" it won't win beauty pageants. "Of course", because Phil knows the thing's not trying to be pretty ;)

Thanks Jan.
As I stated, I never once said it was trying to be pretty. Nor did I say it should be sleek or pretty.
But the fact of the matter is, functional or not - and regardless of beauty being in the eye of the beholder and all that - it is a pretty ugly case. Functional, yes. But good looking? Nope.
My issue was more with the condescending tone of the original post: "Silly article."
But anyway, each to his own.

My issue was more with the condescending tone of the original post: "Silly article." Agree - thatwasn't called for given the nature of the object in question...a bleeding case ;)
