UK among lucky six to get Nokia's debut Windows Phone first

UK among lucky six to get Nokia's debut Windows Phone firstNokia has confirmed that the UK will be among the first wave of countries to receive the company's debut Windows Phone release when it finally breaks cover at the end of the year.

The UK will be one of six nations targeted by Nokia's WinPho advance guard, a group that includes neither the US – despite Nokia's promise to make more of a go of things Stateside – nor even Nokia's home base of Finland.

The six countries in question – the UK, Italy, Germany, France, the Netherlands and Spain – will be the first to see the new Nokia Windows Phones, with Nokia clearly looking to build as strong a foundation as possible among the key European markets in the lead-up to Christmas.

The news was conrfimed by Nokia Europe vice-pres Victor Saeijs at the 2011 Mobile Telecompaper conference through the week, and confirmed once again that Nokia was well on target to achive its aim of getting the first handsets on sale before the end of the year.

No point trying to break into US market with an unproven device. Not if your name's Nokia and the OS isn't Android.
