Universal phone charger standard ratified

It may not mean a whole lot to you if we tell you that the International Electrotechnical Commission has finalised specification IEC62684. But you'll no doubt be more interested when you realise IEC62684 is the universal microUSB phone charger standard we've all been demanding for years now. More details over at the IEC.

Oh thank god. At least it's become more and more common - it would be great if it would be universal and actually implemented.

next up: battery standards. have 3 sizes - like AA, AAA etc... Its ridiculous to not be able to use a perfectly good old phone because one can no longer find a decent battery for it.

I'm not yet able to envision an iPhone with a standard micro usb port, though. Apple would probably sue you if you charged a Nokia with an Apple charger LoL
