Unlocking a prepaid Sprint cell phone

What are the stipulations for Sprint unlocking a prepaid cell phone? Will it cost me?

Is that a Sprint prepay phone or a prepay phone from a Sprint affiliate? Sprint do not unlock the latter.
That out of the way: to get Sprint to unlock your phone, you need a Sprint account in "good standing"...
More on that later. To cut to the chase: you can dial *2 from your Sprint cell phone to speak to
a little helper. Or dial 1-888-211-4727 from any other phone. BEFORE you phone, make sure you gathered all necessary info: Your account details (name, email, customer account number etc), Your phone's IMEI (to find that dial *#06# on your Sprint phone)...

As to who is entitled what does "good standing" mean etc..., check out Sprint's Unlocking Policy Page.

In addition to the phone customer care, you can also use Sprint's Live Chat to find out if your phone can be unlocked. You Live Chat over here.

If you get fobbed off, consider a different strategy: claim that you are moving abroad for work or study or military service. They will unlock your phone if possible so that you can use a foreign operator's SIM.

And there's the "if possible"... Not all of Sprint's phones can be used on other networks - unlocked or not. It's due to their CDMA bands and so on. Again, if you phone them or live chat, providing your phone's IMEI can clarify the situation.

Sprint phones come locked? For past two years all CDMA phones sold unlocked.
Do you have a really old phone?
